Nic Velissaris

Nic Velissaris began writing for the stage while at University. His first full-length play All the News that’s Fit to Print was presented at the Brunswick Mechanics Institute (2000). What the Umbrella Did Next, winner of the Australian National Young Playwrights Award, was produced in Sydney for the Australian Theatre for Young People (2003). Brother Boy, recipient of the RE Ross Playwriting Fellowship for script development, was broadcast on Radio National as an ABC Radio Drama (2005) and premiered at the Big West Festival (2007).

As an Affiliate Writer with the Melbourne Theatre Company, Nic wrote Scrimshander which was presented in a rehearsed reading at the Hard Lines program (2007). Wanderlands, a commission for St Martins Youth Arts Centre, was developed and premiered at St Martins (2008). His most recent play, Chipper, recipient of Malcolm Robertson Foundation funding, will premiere at 45 Downstairs, Melbourne in 2009.
