Agatha, an aspiring detective and general know-it-all who doesn't play well with others, has run away from after-school care to be by herself in the library. But the mysterious - and annoyingly insistent - Elspeth, inexplicably appears and challenges Agatha to solve her century-old dark secret. Agatha soon learns that to solve this mystery, she'll have to play by someone else's rules. And it just might be more fun than she expected.

With opportunity for object puppetry, energetic physical theatre, and quick-fire character changes for two performers, this engaging and surprising murder mystery, specially written for 8-12 year olds, celebrates the joy of make-believe, the usefulness of play, friendship and acceptance.

The Mystery Project was a co-commission between Queensland Theatre and The State Library of Queensland. It was developed during several months’ residency at the State Library of Queensland, using items from the historical collection as research stimulus, including a young girl’s diary, poetry, photographs, and objects. The show played a successful school-holiday season in April 2009 at The Studio of The State Library of Queensland, and toured schools and libraries of regional Queensland in mid 2009.
