What happens when four perfect strangers sign up to a Death CafeÌ programme to discuss love, loss and mortality? Plenty of black humour for a start. Loosely based on the Five Stages of Grieving process devised by psychologist Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, each character embodies one of these stages and each scene encapsulates a step from grief to acceptance. The play deals with serious issues with sensitivity, compassion and laughter.
"A play to tug at the heartstrings and tickle the funny-bone."

EXTRACT: It happens so quickly, I am not able to register, to make sense, but there are shouts and a rushing, and masked men, perhaps twenty, run into the square, they have come from one of the side streets and they have guns, grenades, they are dressed in black with the balaclavas over their faces and they are crying Death to the Enemy! but who is the enemy, there are only people screaming and stumbling and trying to escape and falling down and I look for Marta, where is she?

EXTRACT: He didn't say much, the neurologist. You know the way doctors are. You describe your symptoms. They nod - aha, aha - but you can't tell what they're thinking. Their faces close up, you can't read the expression in their eyes, it’s rehearsed that professional detachment, cultivated for years and years. Do they teach them that at Med. school? Is there a course in blank faces you have to pass? What happens if you fail? Six weeks ago, the left side of my lip started tingling, and then overnight, I couldn't feel it at all - completely numb.
