The Love Play is a triptych of plays threaded together. Each of the three stories focuses on a moment of erotic love at different times of life. In each story there is a moment of beauty, consummation, and also a death. A young couple in the throes of roll playing take their desire for each other one step too far. A married woman, pregnant to a man she loves but is not her husband terminates her pregnancy and returns to her family. An old man is sick and losing his mind, his lover helps him say goodbye to the world.
The three stories together make a fourth narrative which culminates in a comic telling of the myth of Orpheus’ descent into Hades to rescue his lover. The Love Play is a poetic, witty and theatrically innovative venture into the heart of love and death.

EXTRACT: Died? Yes. Someone had – as a matter of fact – they had. But it didn’t stop people – people were full of all their…morning...Platitudes. Bullshit! No one was saying, ‘isn’t it strange this morning, like someone has died on our doorstep’. I went up to my desk and Geoff – (You know Geoff…The one with the moustache) – well Geoff came up to me – behind me actually – as subtle as a Walrus – and whispered – ‘Jamie, you know Jamie, Jamie’s gone. He’s dead’. That’s what I asked. Jamie! was nineteen. I had coffee with him.

EXTRACT: I am a blind tuber full of sleep full of mist and dreams. Buried in the womb of the earth, waiting for the spring, waiting to flower, waiting for the season of my dreams to blossom. But then I-don’t-know-what begins corroding me. It begins eating away at the border of my perfect sleep. And finally it’s inside. Dreams of you. You come to me in these dreams never more complete. Never more absent. You are so full, so ripe, like dark honey. I move toward you and I notice a man standing behind you. He’s standing and waiting behind you.
