An irreverent musical satire about a blind crippled girl whose dreams of stage and screen stardom turns into a nightmare of disillusion and mental breakdown. Helen Keller's day goes from bad to worse when she is kicked out of the chorus of a broadway show by its director, Otto Ditmeyer, then evicted from her home by her mother, Estelle, who is not only black but runs a mid town bordello. Helen ends up in Cantral Park where she meets Annie Sullivan, an entertainment manager who sees the star potential in Helen and gets her a spot on a Shirley Bassey TV Live special. Helen becomes an overnight sensation when during a dance routine she punctures Shirley's colostomy bag with her white stick live on national TV. Helen follows up her TV debut with a smash hit record and sell out Broadway show. But the devastating toll of stardom becomes too much.
