In endeavouring to get St Peter a more befitting role of riding ashore in the upcoming Passion Play, Fr. Ignatius didn’t reckon on the shakiness of the Cairns ‘dhow’ he hired or the flukey Cairns surf or the determination of the local sailfish to discuss life over a few beers with St. Peter at a beach bar. Watching it all was Tillie the Zap, the local who needed just such assistance to save the very salt of the Machans Beach air from becoming too over-worked salty for its own good by her pushing back the sea. It’s not easy. You have to draw a line in the sand and trust the UV lamps slung under the brim of your hat. A lot of sheer defiance is needed if you are to become a shiny beacon, by two.

Unlike the now fairly common shadow-play ‘presentations’ (not plays, but entertainments like illustrating popular song lyrics etc), relying on effects through human-form shapes, the modern live-action shadow play advocates direct-acting techniques with pre-modelled props to liven up the scene flexibilities needed to put on full-storied plays -- while keeping the magic and mystique of traditional ‘shadows-on-the-wall’ with the storytelling ‘hum’.
Modern-day live-action shadow plays present a new way of production or theatre training/involvement for all aspects re-defined production skills to all types of audiences -- from the primary schools and community groups upwards; from workshopping to full-on productions
