The Good and Bad Funding Stuff
It would be remiss not to congratulate and commiserate with our fellow arts organisations who received the news of Creative Australia Multi-Year Funding last week. For those who have been successful, well done. May this security build your creativity and impact. For those like us, it is tough. Simple as that. It has been a year of underlying anxiety as we work hard to alleviate the precarity of the work we do.
We will put the out-of-office on, take a breath for a week or two, and return in 2024 for a red-hot go.
2023 with APT
To end on a high, here are some recent highlights!
This list is not exhaustive; to give a complete recap of all the things we did this year would be exhausting, and we are exhausted.
Retreats
We took 12 playwrights on retreats and supported the development of their plays through in-room developments and one-on-one dramaturgy.
APAF
Co-hosted the theatre breakout session at Theatre Network Australia’s Australian Performing Arts Forum in Brisbane- back in the room with our national colleagues, after so long apart.
Developing the Dramaturg
Supported 6 new Dramaturgs, with skills development workshops, mentoring and paid internships with theatre companies.
lutruwita
Supported an outstanding cohort of artists in lutruwita/Tasmania in playwriting and dramaturgy skills development.
Australian Theatre Festival
Co-produced a panel of Australian playwrights talking about their work with the Australian Theatre Festival New York.
APT Baby
Our General Manager/Administrator, Lauren, created a whole new human. Welcome baby Nell.
2024: here for more!
Big things happening at Creative Australia: the formation of Writers Australia, which will include playwrights. We can’t wait for the details.
The appointment of BIG theatre brains Wesley Enoch and Courtney Stewart to the Board of Creative Australia.
All the new Australian works on our stages next year! I am starting my year off with Ilbijerri’s Big Name, No Blankets – can’t wait.
