Australian Drama Conferences with Erin Taylor

Australian Plays Transform CEO and Executive Producer Erin Taylor is a Dramaturg, Director, Producer and Educator. Erin recently presented Moving beyond the core texts: a deep dive into new and lesser-known Australian plays at the Drama Australia National Conference – INVIGORATE! in Adelaide, and the Drama NSW State Conference – Reclaim, Reignite, Reimagine in Sydney.

Below she reflects on these conferences, and shares some of the plays she dived into with drama educators from across Australia.

In May, I had the pleasure of attending and presenting at two drama education conferences: the Drama Australia National Conference – INVIGORATE! in Adelaide, and the Drama NSW State Conference – Reclaim, Reignite, Reimagine in Sydney. As always, I was reminded of the generosity, passion and dedication of drama teachers—working hard to create safe, creative classrooms that centre student voice and imagination.

I was lucky enough to attend some excellent sessions, from accessible and innovative uses of technology in the classroom to updates on the vital work being done to safeguard the drama curriculum. A special highlight was Wesley Enoch’s keynote in Adelaide—a powerful reminder of the cultural and social importance of our work.

I presented on new (or new-ish) Australian texts for the classroom and was grateful for the enthusiastic conversations that followed. Thank you to the teachers who shared their go-to plays and embraced the suggestions I brought along.

If you weren’t able to attend, you can explore the featured texts below.

A heartfelt thanks to Zoe Hogan for her support on the presentation, and to Jordan Shea for presenting alongside me in Sydney.
