Nicole Smith

Nicole Smith, occasionally known as Nicky Marr is a writer, director and filmmaker. Most recently her play, 'Still a Hero', premiered at La Mama to critical and audience acclaim. Nicole toured extensively with the aerial dance theatre company Strange Fruit, visiting North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and many parts of Australia. She made a new work, 'Angel', for the company when she retired. 'Angel' was launched at Government House for the Commonwealth Games and enjoyed a season in London.

Since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts, Nicky has produced many works, most notably 'absolutes' at Theatreworks, 'Significant Others' for Dancehouse, 'An Amorous Discourse in the Suburbs of Hell' for La Mama and the Adelaide Festival, and 'Crouching Husband, Hidden Wife' for the Chinese Theatre Group. She won the award for Best Movement Piece of the Festival for two years running with 'A Design for Powered Flight' and 'and finding only why'.

Nicole has worked with One Extra, Wu LIn Dance Theatre, Circus Oz, Danceworks, La Boite and the Queensland Theatre Company.
