Adam Macaulay

Adam Macaulay has worked as a theatre director, actor, scriptwriter, dramaturg, script assessor and a teacher of acting for fifteen years. He has worked as an assistant director at Melbourne Theatre Company and Taki Rua Theatre Company in Wellington, New Zealand; as a dramaturg for the Young Playwright’s Awards at Sydney Theatre Company; a director for the Australian National Playwrights Centre; and a script assessor for the Australian Writers Guild. He has taught for the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, the Drama School in Wellington, New Zealand, the NIDA Open Program and the Actors College of Theatre and Television. In addition to his many independent productions, he has directed close to thirty student productions for professional training institutions.

Late in 2002 he adapted and directed four short stories by Tim Winton under the title Single True Things for the Actors College of Theatre and Television. Macaulay has also written for ABC radio, for regional professional theatre companies, and for community organisations such as the Wheelchair Association and the Mental Health Association.

He continues to be an active director and writer in the independent theatre scene, working on original projects with Suction Productions, and as a guest director/tutor for various teaching institutions.
