Henrietta Drake-Brockman was born in Perth in 1901 and was schooled in both Australia and Scotland before attending University in Western Australia where she studied literature. She soon became a published author with the majority of her work being inspired by the North-West region of Australia. Drake-Brockman was mainly a novelist, however she also wrote a number of one act plays. Men Without Wives was her most successful play as women playwrights rose to prominence in Australia for a number of reasons following the war. Drake-Brockman was also one of the original members of the Fellowship of Australian Writers in Western Australia. She died in 1968 loving wife and mother.
