Jeannie Haughton’s artistic works span two decades of theatre and visual arts, both professional and community-based. Acting led to founding and operating for many years, a small regional theatre-in-education puppetry company, Fiddlesticks, then further study- Professional Writing & Editing. In 2012 Jeannie was awarded an Australia Day Medallion by Baw Baw Shire for her contribution to the Arts.
In 2010 Jeannie co-founded Off The Leash Theatre which tours socially resonant, contemporary works into Gippsland, Victoria. Between 2017-18 Jeannie was also Co-Artistic Director and Creative on a Victorian Government project Small Towns Transformation in the Westernport Waterline towns. http://www.smalltowns.rav.net.au/projects
Fiercely feminist and part of the world of women writers showcasing their work, Jeannie’s work was selected and she attended three Women Playwright International Conferences (Athens 2000, Mumbai 2009, Greece 2015). She was the chief selector for the Oceania Region for the WPI Conference in Chile 2019.
Works have included commissions, festivals, cross-genre collaborations and personal projects including: Quilting The Armour, Haughton/Johns 2006, Old Melbourne Gaol directed by Rodney Hall OAM; Nightshades, 2019 West Gippsland Arts Centre following two years of collaboration with Kurnai Elder Cheryl Drayton; Wild Dogs, 2013 WGAC; Dear Warragul, an ANZAC Centenary Tribute, 2015; Win Win -Carlton Courthouse; 2014; The Trial Of Ellen Kelly 2013 -Beechworth Courthouse; LightLine, 2011; Salute The Man, Old Gippstown 2009;
Jeannie has been mentored by John Romeril and Peter Matheson and studied Playwriting and Performance Writing under Ray Mooney. She is member of Theatre Network Australia, Regional Arts Victoria, Australian Writers Guild.
