Leonard Radic (1935-2018) was an Australian writer, known primarily as a theatre critic but he was in fact a journalist who wrote editorials, columns, feature articles and book reviews for The Age, a Melbourne daily newspaper publishing at a time when it was seen as left-wing and politically influential. He was also a playwright and author of two books on the Australian theatre, The state of play : the revolution in the Australian theatre since the 1960s (Penguin 1991) and Contemporary Australian Drama (Brandl & Schlesinger, 2006 ). In the cultural debate on national identity that raised the consciousness of his generation, he played a not inconsiderable role.
