David Brown has worked in professional theatre as an actor, writer, director and producer since 1987. As an actor he has worked with QTC, STC, La Boite, Q Theatre, Hunter Valley Theatre, New England Theatre, TN! and New Moon Theatre, as well as appearing in independent productions at The Stables and Belvoir Street Downstairs. In 2003, David's play 'eating ice cream with your eyes closed' was workshopped at the ANPC. It was subsequently produced by Queensland Theatre Company and Hothouse Theatre, and published by Playlab Press. 'Ice cream' received best production, acting and directing awards in the 2004 Brisbane Matilda Awards. Playlab has also published David's play 'Keep everything you love' which was commissioned by the Brisbane Festival in 1998 and toured throughout regional QLD, Alice Springs and Darwin in 2001. David's other playwriting commissions include plays for Freewheels Theatre Company (2000) and the Queensland Arts Council (2004). David's new play, 'The Estimator', won the Queensland Premier's Theatre in Public Life Award, and was produced by the QTC in June 2007. 'The Estimator' has been published by Playlab. In 2007 Tatrum Youth Theatre commissioned David to write 'Boy Called Flag' as part of their production 'Riot!', which was performed in Newcastle.
