Kate Herbert is a Melbourne-based playwright with plays published by Currency Press. During 2020, Kate wrote Panda-effing-Monium: A Covid Musical, and Evaline: an Improvised Radio Play in 21 episodes. Other plays include: 8 X 10 (2019), a cycle of short plays. Kate also works as a director, performer, reviewer and lecturer in Theatre. She currently teaches Playwriting at Melbourne Polytechnic, was Coordinator, Professional Writing / Editing, Swinburne University (2010-17), and taught Playwriting and Performance at NMIT, NICA, BHI and VCA. Kate was theatre critic for Herald Sun, Melbourne, from 1997 to 2020, reviewed theatre for Radio 3MBS and continues to review for her blog. She holds a Masters in Dramatic Art (Directing) from VCA/University of Melbourne, specialising in improvising full-length plays in the style of Shakespeare. Kate studied singing for 20 years, was a comedian with The Flat Whites (1986-90) and has improvised plays and musicals in Australia, USA and Canada. She was awarded Victorian Vocational Teacher of the Year, 2015.
