Nicholas Hasluck was born in Canberra in 1942. He was educated at the University of Western Australia and at Oxford, and has been practising law in Perth in various capacities since 1968. He is married with two sons.
Nicholas has served as Chair of the Literature Board and as Deputy Chair of the Australia Council. He was a part-time president of the Equal Opportunity Tribunal (WA) for many years, and is presently serving as a judge on the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
He has published ten works of fiction, including the prize-winning novels The Bellarmine Jug (winner of The Age Book of the Year Award, 1984) and The Country without Music (joint winner of the WA Premier's Literary Prize). His non-fiction works include two books of essays - Offcuts from a Legal Literary Life and The Legal Labyrinth: The Kisch Case and other reflections on law and literature.
