Max Afford was born in Adelaide in 1906 and began writing as a reporter. Soon he found himself in the ground breaking world of radio and broadcasting. Afford played many roles in broadcasting and in 1936 moved to Sydney in order to pursue producing radio and writing his own dialogue scripts. Specialising in thrillers Afford soon became well known for his scripts and his radio plays. Afford branched into theatre with his comedy thriller Lady in Danger which premiered in Sydney in 1942 and Mischief in the Air in 1944. In Afford moved to England to study television broadcasting and had some success with his play Dark Enchantment. He later would return to Australia and work more in radio. He died in Sydney in 1952.
