Therese Collie

Brisbane born Therese Collie toured with the Popular Theatre Troupe before studying at the Lecoq School in Paris. A playwright, director, actor and dramaturg, in 2000, Therese was awarded an Australia Council Fellowship and The Playlab Award.

Other career highlights include: Director/Co-creator of the AWGIE award-winning Torres Strait Islander Children’s Play Kese Solwata, Director of Svetlana in Slingbacks for La Boite Theatre, Writer/Director of Long Way Round for the ATOM award-winning SBS drama series Under The Skin, Director/Co-creator of Chinese Take Away, subsequently adapted as a docu-drama for SBS television, in which she acted. Actor/Co-creator of We’ve Been Had for Faceback Theatre Edinburgh, touring Scotland and the Western Isles.

Writing credits include: AWGIE nominated plays Murri Time and Goin’ to the Island; Published plays Out of the Blue, Goin’ to the Island and Binni’s Backyard and Krismes Karaoke History, a tri-lingual theatre production for the Christmas Island community in the Indian Ocean.

In 2008 Therese established Playabout Productions with Tim Mullooly. Their first work, Brisbane Writers Show, was launched at the Brisbane Writers Festival. It has since been performed extensively in libraries, at conferences and major events. Playabout Productions have expanded this model to work with communities to produce Moreton Bay Writers Show, The One and Only FAWQ (Fellowship of Australian Writers Queensland) Showand Bundaberg Writers Show.

In 2012 Therese has adapted Binni’s Backyard with Nadine McDonald-Dowd for a Queensland Arts Council tour of primary schools. She is Director/Dramaturg of X by Sunny Drake for Metro Arts’ The Independents.
