John Armstrong

John Armstrong is one of Australia’s leading writers of television for young audiences. Over the last twenty years he has written for numerous children’s drama series, including the AFI and Logie Award winning Blue Water High (Series 1, 2 & 3), A gURLs wURLd, In Your Dreams (Series 1 & 2), H20: Just Add Water, Scooter: Secret Agent, Snobs, Wild Kat, Sweat, and the BAFTA nominated Don’t Blame the Koalas.

He has also written for a diverse range of animated series, including the AACTA Award winning The Adventures of Figaro Pho, CJ the DJ, Dennis & Gnasher, Tashi, The Deep, Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs, Guess How Much I Love You, The Woodlies, Vic the Viking, Zigby, Classic Tales, Li’l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers, and ABC-TV’s iconic Bananas in Pyjamas. John has written for the preschool series Raggs, New MacDonald Farm, and the ABC’s first Chinese co-production, Hoopla Doopla!, which he also script-edited.

He also wrote the screenplay for the feature film Risk, and wrote and directed the award-winning short films Looking for Spacethings, Rhino Christmas, and Saving Hieronymus. Among other awards for his work in children’s television, John has won three Australian Writers’ Guild Awards (AWGIEs), in 2006, 2009 and 2011.
