Neil Cameron gained a reputation as coordinator and director of large scale community events which frequently involved thousands of people and spectacular effects with fire, music, water and fireworks. He has worked mainly in England, Scotland and Australia, but also in Japan, Holland, Germany, Canada, USA and New Zealand. Two of his productions won the Event of the Year in the Northern Territory and he was also the director of the Melbourne Peace Vigil Festival which won a United Nations Peace Award for Australia. In recent years he has focused on teaching, writing and consultancy. In 2005 he published the book The Art Makers on cultural development. He runs courses for theatre students, arts practitioners, community groups and festival administrators; and developed the inaugural Festival of Voices (a choral festival in Tasmania). He is also an honorary research associate at the University of Tasmania and consults on a range of government and private projects.
