Announcing our Monologue collection + Narragunnawali collaboration

Welcome to Term 4! It’s a time of the school year where many teachers and students will be looking for compelling solo pieces. Australian Plays Transform is thrilled to share our new Monologue collection – highlighting 40 brilliant pieces for solo performers by Australian playwrights. We have carefully curated this collection to encompass a range of different styles, characters, and lengths for students.

We’ll continue to grow this collection over time – if you’d like to recommend a monologue for the collection, please get in touch!

We’re also proud to present two new education resources, one developed with Narragunnawali and the other to accompany our recently published Pride Collection, supported by Pride Foundation Australia. See more below.

Finally, if you’re a teacher or educator who engages with APT and Australian plays, we’d love to get your feedback on our website – please fill in this brief survey here.

NEW IN: APT’s Monologue Collection highlights some of the most compelling Australian playwriting for solo performers and Drama students.

The collection currently contains 40 monologues – some are from full-length solo works, while others are contained within ensemble plays.

We encourage students to delve into the world of each play as they prepare a monologue for performance – read the entire play, research the playwright and their context, and explore how performance elements can bring the piece to life.

Together with our friends at Narragunnawali (a program of Reconciliation Australia), APT has compiled a list of plays written by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander playwrights, from the 1970s to now.

There’s also a list of plays by non-Indigenous Australian playwrights exploring related themes, which can be explored alongside a plethora of resources from Wesley Enoch, Rachael Maza, and APT Board Member and leading academic Dr Liza-Mare Syron.

While delving into these incredible works, we recommend you check out Narragunnawali’s Drama subject guide.

EXPLORING LGBTQIA+ TEXTS IN THE CLASSROOM

With the support of Pride Foundation Australia, APT’s new Pride Collection education resource includes:

  • Practical exercises

  • A guide to inclusive language

  • Curriculum links

  • An overview of research that attests to the importance of studying texts representing the diverse and authentic experiences of LGBTQIA+ people.

Exploring plays in APT’s Pride Collection is an ideal opportunity to situate understanding of LGBTQIA+ topics and experiences in language and context, forming a respectful foundation for nuanced classroom discussion and learning.
