Construction of the Human Heart is about a couple, Him and Her, who are haunted by two deaths, the death of her mother and the death of the couple's son. They are also both playwrights, reading from scripts of a play they are writing. The playscript keeps bringing their son Tom to life. He becomes a presence ironically more alive than his parents who are struggling desperately to understand and control their grief.
