EXTRACT: I often dreamed of the following scenario: I was asked to show fear, love, hope, anger, desire, joy, bitterness and misery. Despite visiting each category my face never changed. I was a wonder of the world. An aberrant wonder of the world. I thought I should run away and be a star attraction in a travelling side show. The Human Automaton. The woman with one visage. I read somewhere that smiling was good because you used hundreds of muscles and consequently gave the face a good work out. At least I was preserving my muscles and conserving energy.
