PRETEXT

$15.00

Pretext is a lighthearted look at a serious subject: the war of the sexes as they confront their mortality.

Our middle aged heroines, Cathy, Lucy and Anne, are facing the unfortunate truth that men their own age are abandoning their dating pool for the younger model. But rather than drown their sorrows in martinis, they fight back with a plan to seduce hot, young men – while they still can. Under the guise of Pretext Productions, they audition young, attractive men, hoping to seduce the most 'promising' ones.

It works a treat, and seeing all the real talent they attract, Anne pushes the idea even further. She's written a play and wants them to actually do it!

Talked into mounting the production, rehearsals begin and things are going really well. That is, until the disappearance of their leading man, catching the women in a web of their own deceit.

“A great night. A little too close to the bone for comfort at times… thoroughly enjoyed it. Would go to see it again… there were so many laughs to be had I might have missed some!” – Mary Murphy, Budapest Times.

“PRETEXT” – BUDAPEST ENGLISH THEATRE

RUSSELL SKIDMORE, XPATLOOP.COM, 21 OCTOBER 2014

"Without giving too much away, as this may be showing again in the not too distant future, the play is roughly about the furtive imagination of women, and what they will do or could do, to get a man. In this case, playing them at their own game."
