THE FLATS

$5.40$15.00

The Flats is about six people and one DJ who live in an inner city apartment block. It is about their nasty, creepy, dirty, juicy, slippery, fleshy, mouldy, tickly, prickly, ballsey, hyper, psycho, chicken-loving, letter-writing, no-friend-having, anger-festering, orgasm-mongering, death-smelling, nipple-tweaking, medicated, fabricated, penetrated, isolated, unabated little habits and thoughts … it is about those moments of horrible, screeching, clumsy, excruciating and beautiful humanity they experience.

EXTRACT: I also suggested that if she used a laptop and worked on the train during her trip from the office to Ryde, then perhaps she wouldn't fall behind ... Well, that was it, she started freaking out at me over the phone. "How the hell do you know I live in Ryde? ... You're a psychopath!" she yelled. The thing was, I was rather pale as a child, so I didn't really engage in the school activities... I had a lot of time on my hands to research... And anyway, taxation records are quite easy to access ...

EXTRACT: My mother was a thick-legged work-horse of a woman. She didn't know it, but I'd watch her stuff the chicken for Sunday dinner. I'd watch this woman stand there and ram breadcrumbs and egg up the arse of a raw chicken. She'd do it so matter-of-fact, not even watching what she was doing. And she was so brutal with it. Shove, shove. And that's what I was watching the first time I noticed I was wet between the legs. My mother ... ramming a chicken.
