Jim O'Neill, until recently a Catholic priest, has been defrocked for writing an essay entitled 'The Rehabilitation of God' for a radical left wing magazine. Together with former acolyte Frank Young, he has started his own church. Their congregation is minute. But when Shannon Maguire, anchorwoman for 'Thirty Minutes', is given the job of doing an expose on O'Neill, an unexpected chain of events leads to a massive increase in the congregation, and the emergence of the defrocked priest as a threat to vested interests in the Government, Church and Judiciary. Maguire herself sets about mobilising 'people power' to free him.
