Belvoir St Theatre Education Resources

About

Based in an old factory on Gadigal land, Sydney, Belvoir St Theatre is one of Australia’s most celebrated and beloved theatre companies. Since 1984, when a group of 600 theatre-lovers came together to buy a theatre and save it from becoming an apartment block, Belvoir St Theatre has been at the forefront of Australian storytelling for the stage.

This collection of Belvoir education resources, curated with Australian Plays Transform, showcases the best of Australian playwriting, realised with the boldness, openness and playfulness for which Belvoir is renowned. The plays and accompanying resources span recent Belvoir premieres, as well as modern classics and adaptations of Australian novels. Many appear on Drama, Theatre and English text lists across Australia, and form meaningful connections with cross-curriculum priority areas.

We love hosting teachers and students at Belvoir St Theatre for dedicated performances throughout the year. We also invite teachers and students to explore our Resource Library, where you can deep dive into industry roles to gain insight into how Belvoir work is brought to life on stage.

We hope you enjoy engaging with these brilliant Australian plays, and learning how they were brought to life with a spirit of play and inventiveness by Belvoir artists.

We acknowledge that we live and create on unceded lands. We pay our respects to the First Peoples of Australia, and to their elders past, present and future.
