ROPE BURN

$5.40$15.00

How far would you go for a friend? From the devious mind of Australian playwright Ava Karuso comes a dark comedy about friendship, boys and one of humanities most frightening diseases. Michael has been diagnosed with cancer, but it’s not the end of the world. Well, it might be, for Michael anyway. For Ben it’s a struggle to support his mate, to stay a real man and to decide whether a Filipino mail-order bride might actually a good idea in this circumstance.

EXTRACT: I left Ben sleeping. He's dreaming. I know cause he's muttering. I know -Well, I think I know. I don't know for sure, but I think I know what he's dreaming of. He's dreaming he's on a game---show, and all the contestants are dying. You know, limbs falling off, or blood gushing out of their ears. But they're all still playing the game. And Megan Fox is there. Megan Fox isn't part of the metaphor of the thing, but she turns up now and again.

So, I guess I'll start with- Right. So I guess I'll tell you about my-I'm pretty new to this...I guess. I dunno where to- well... So I have some dreams, some things that I want to do or ...that I want to happen in my life. And I'm kinda worried now that they're not going to, you know? Like, I might miss out.

REVIEW: ROPE BURN BY AVA KARUSO

JODI MCALISTER, AUSTRALIAN STAGE, 19 SEPTEMBER 2012

"Rope Burn is not a play about death. It is a play about more than not wanting to die - it is a play about desperately, passionately wanting to live, and how difficult it is to accept that death is a reality, not just in the distant future but perhaps just around the corner. It is about friends, about not being alone, and about how being frightened is okay."
