BOX AND COX

$5.40$15.00

This is an adaption for a modern live-acted shadow play written for either stage production or workshopping amongst all levels.

BOX AND COX, the timeless farce by John Maddison Morton, has rarely been reproduced on stage since its premiere at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, London, in 1847.

Yet, it has ‘gone into’ the English language as coming to mean two people who substitute for each other – from The Chambers’ English Dictionary:
‘Box and Cox; two people who never meet or who alternate in a job or place etc…’

Curiously, this famous farce has only been infrequently performed since its premiere.

Equally curiously, for a play that has buried itself in the Western psyche, it generally only runs for less than an hour in conventional theatre terms. This shadow-play version would run longer.
