Stella Kent

Tasmanian writer Stella Kent is the author of fifteen plays, including Our Path (Theatre North for the inaugural Ten Days on the Island Festival), Poxed, (Tasmanian Theatre Company for Ten Days in 2011), Boz & Co., Conviction, Demon King, Mr Bligh’s Third Mutiny and Because which was selected to represent Tasmania on ABC FM's The Stage of the Nation (all for CentrStage), New Tasmanians (Australian Script Centre). Tamar Tidings, a community play with a cast of 130, was produced on a specifically built barge anchoring at various pontoons along Tasmania’s Tamar River in November 2007.

Boz & Co. was joint runner-up for the Griffin Award in 1998, while Conviction was shortlisted for the Griffin Award in 2001. Our Path received an AWGIE nomination for Community Theatre in 2002, and A Tale of One City won the AWGIE for Radio Drama of 1995.

For many years Dr Kent taught at the University of Tasmania’s School of Performing Arts where she was later an Honorary Research Assistant. In 2006 she was Playwright in Residence at Tasmania’s Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.
