Deborah Mulhall

Deborah started as an actress (Kate in Taming of the Shrew; Titania – Midsummer Night’s Dream and Raina in Arms and the Man). She moved on to directing and then writing for stage.

Having studied at NIDA and La MaMa International, Deborah has written 9 full length plays and directed over 20. Her play Cry, Wolf was runner-up in New York New Works of merit in 2004 and ran off-Broadway for 8 weeks and has been optioned for film. The comedy Gentlemen Inc has also been optioned for film and other works have been translated and performed overseas.

Deborah is a founding member of the Parramatta Theatre Company, one time President of the Illawarra Council for the Performing Arts, a life member of Workshop Theatre and Board member of Factory Space Theatre Co.

Her most recent work includes The Matilda Waltz (written & directed April 2015) and The Kiss – currently touring South America. She directed Britannia Waves the Rules for the 2015 Sydney Fringe Festival and Much Ado About Nothing for The Genesian Theatre. She also does a lot of script assessment for various competitions, peoples and organizations, is Education Officer for New Theatre and acted as the Judging coordinator for Sydney’s Short+Sweet Festival 2011-2013.
