DAVID BLACKMAN

David Blackman is a Melbourne-based writer. He moved to New York in 1987 and appeared in over a dozen Off-Broadway plays, including the premiere of Daniel Keene's The Fighter at Theatre for a New City. He wrote and performed the one-man show Race is the Reason. It was selected for the Ontological Theatre Downtown Arts Festival in 1998. In 2003, The Revisionist was nominated for the Wal Cherry Play of the Year by the MTC and won the R.E. Ross Script Development Award as part of the Victorian Premier's Literary Prize. In 2006, the State Library of Victoria produced a reading of the play as part of its 'Live at the Library' series. A full production occurred at the Clifton Arts Centre in Richmond in 2007. In November 2006 David received the John Gassner Memorial Playwrighting Award for Enola Gay. A staged reading was produced by the Living Theatre in New York in 2007. In 2011, The Long Day's Dying was produced at La Mama Theatre. In 2014, The Portage of Luke Ruschmeyer was the winner of the Gunplays Theatre Competition for plays dealing with gun violence in American culture. Greater Israel was finalist and co-winner of the International Playwriting Festival in 2016 and finalist of the Woodward International Playwriting Prize in 2017. The Revisionist, Enola Gay, Eichmann in Jerusalem and The Long Day’s Dying are all published by the Australian Plays.
