Verity is an award-winning playwright and poet.
Verity work has been produced in Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, the UK and the USA. Verity’s more than 30 produced works include main-stage adult dramas, plays for children and families, radio plays, a promenade community event, a musical, as well as for dance, for puppets, and for theatre of image.
In March 2017 Brink Theatre, Adelaide premiered Verity’s play Long Tan and her play Red Cross Letters was produced at the State Theatre Company of South Australia and was short-listed for the 2013 Rodney Seaborn Prize.
Her other work includes; Ella (Tap Gallery), The Sweetest Thing (Belvoir, nominated for the 2012 NSW Premier’s Award), Crate of Souls (Adelaide College of the Arts), Ghostie (The Old Fitz), Lone Bird (New Theatre), Nargun and the Stars (Erth Physical Theatre, Sydney Festival, Perth International Arts Festival), Gondwana (Erth Physical Theatre), Respect (Griffin), The Gizmo (Riverina Theatre Co), Neutral Script (Hothouse Theatre), The Snow Queen (Windmill Performing Arts, STC), World of Paper (Kazenoko Theatre Company), Piercing the Skin (Junction Theatre), Koala Lou (Matthew Flinders Theatre), The Mourning After (Playbox Theatre), and I Saw a Dinosaur (Magpie Theatre).
She was awarded the 2009 Adelaide’s Critic’s Circle Best New Australian Play for Carrying Light (State Theatre Company of South Australia), the 2009 Inscription Award for The Ice Season, 2004 Community Theatre AWGIE for The Lightkeeper (Mainstreet Theatre and national tour), the 2004 Best Radio Drama AWGIE for Fox (ABC Radio), and the 2001 Griffin Prize for Burning (Griffin Theatre Company).
