CORDELIA

$5.40$10.00

Cordelia is a passionate meditation on death. A distracted and dream-like Lear figure, seemingly hovering between life and death, revisits the terrible pain of regret, of lost opportunities, that tortures a father grieving over the his daughter's body.

Cordelia is a rag doll in a suitcase, the once neglected, mute daughter whose body is now the fetishised object of his grief, the only witness to the wisdom he acquired too late.

EXTRACT: These are the last days/ The last voices are calling the last doors are closing/ This is the last of what light remains/ (long pause)They say the world is round I'm heavy as the world my heart's a continent/ Who'll give me two crowns to make an egg? I'll suck it raw and crow at sunrise/ But where's the sun?/ It is twilight/ Even my shadow couldn't tell me who I am I'm left darkling and time lies to me/Soon everything will be as cold and dark as the sea/

ALISON CROGGON, THEATRENOTES.BLOGSPOT.COM.AU, NOV 2010

"For the first time I can remember, Daniel Keene has two productions on at once in his home town... Since he lives in the same house as I do, I sneakily exploited our proximity to ask him some questions. And, eventually, he answered them."
