Stella is young, unemployed and lives with her widowed father. Wanting a way out of her tedious life, she connects up to the Internet. There she develops a relationship with Wayfarer, a wise and street smart correspondent on the net. Her interactions with Wayfarer are interrupted by a mysterious imp, Mercury, who diverts her into magical web sites of his choosing where she meets Epicurus, Pauline Hanson, Hildegard of Bingen, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Albert Einstein. As a result of these meetings, Stella begins to ask questions about her life, leading her to understand the meaning of her name and discover Wayfarer's true identity.
