MY VICIOUS ANGEL

$5.40$15.00

My Vicious Angel is a one act-play set in a kind of haunted hospital. Pearl is a trapeze artist who has fallen and broken her spine; Merle her dead twin sister who died in a fire. Through Merle's at first unwelcome visitations, Pearl is lured back into their sad history via role playing (Mum, Dad, and Oscar the parrot are hilariously invoked) and through music (Mum's tangos, Dad's beloved sea shanties). The twins have a dense private language. Themes include memory, lies, trauma, flight and falling and incomplete grieving. Performance also requires 2 musicians.

EXTRACT: Dad? [pause] I know you're there. You hate being stuck too, don't you? Landlocked... I'm more like you Dad. We need air rushing past us... [singsong] and a star to steer her by. The high lights. Melbourne Age: "The highlight of this otherwise tame and tawdry circus was Pearl Watts' sizzling flying trapeze act, which flaunted the aerialist's erotic thrall with death". That's crap, it's with life. Kickstart the heart so it beats and beats like wings, lift me up, lift me up- I was pretty hot Dad, hot enough to singe the walls.
