About
These Education Resources have been created to support busy teachers in bringing Australian plays to life in the classroom. Whether the script is a familiar favourite or a new discovery, each resource is designed to help you explore the text with confidence.
Each Education Resource includes:
- Practical ways to jump into the script – individually, in pairs, in small groups, and as a whole class.
- Selected scenes to read, analyse, present, and perform.
- Strategies for using the text to explore acting, design, and directing approaches.
- Suggestions for analysing and evaluating the play, including links to professional reviews and interviews with writers and creative teams.
- Access to production trailers and images where available.
- Activities that help students consider key design elements of theatre: set, props, costume, sound, and lighting.
Links to the curriculum:
At the end of each resource, you’ll find tables outlining connections to the Australian Curriculum for the Arts, English, and Humanities, as well as links to senior Drama curricula (which vary from state to state). These are offered as guides to support planning and to help teachers see how each play can address learning outcomes.
School Productions
You may also wish to use one of these texts for a school production. Please note that performance rights are required for any public performance. Securing rights is a meaningful way to support Australian playwrights, and requests can be made through the Australian Plays Transform website. Once you have selected a play, hit the ‘Production Rights’ button to access the form.
Don’t be afraid to reach out if you are considering a production and are concerned about making MINOR changes, for example the gender of a character or removal of a swear word. Playwrights are often receptive to these types of small changes that make it suitable for your setting, but respects their play.
We hope you find a play that resonates with your student – and that these resources help you cover the skills, ideas, and themes you need to teach.
Time to inspire.
