TERRY WHITEBEACH

Terry Whitebeach is a Tasmanian writer who has lived on the island all her life, apart from a brief ten years spent in WA and NT. She has a BA from the University of Tasmania, an MA (English/Creative Writing) from Edith Cowan University (WA) and is presently completing a PhD (History/Biography) at Charles Darwin University, NT. Her first collection of poetry, BIRD DREAM, (Penguin 1993) won the Anne Elder Award for a first work and was shortlisted for the WA Premier's prize. Her two novels for young adults are WATERSKY (FACP, 1997) and BANTAM (FACP 2002). BANTAM was written collaboratively with her son, Michael Brown. It was broadcast on ABC Radio National's Book Reading? in February 2004. She has had two radio plays produced and broadcast by ABC on Airplay?: ANTARCTIC JOURNEY, in 2002, and BANTAM, A REAL BOOK BY MICK BROWN AND TERRY WHITEBEACH, in 2004. Her most recent play, MILL ENDS, has been contracted by the ABC for production. Her biography of Kaytetye senior man and cattle station owner, Alexander Donald Ross, GOOD ONE, DON ROSS, is being published by IAD Press: publication date - late 2004. She is presently working on a play about the childhood and schooldays of David Collins, first Lt. Governor of Hobart Town.
