Vivienne Glance

Vivienne has had plays produced in London, Edinburgh, Seattle, Sydney, Turin and Perth, and other plays have won prizes or been shortlisted internationally (Gold Dust Speaks International Competition, London; Todhunter Literary Award, Australia; Short and Sweet Festivals; Malibu Playwriting Competition, USA and others). Her short play, Draniki, produced by Ensemble Free Theater, Norway, was part of the global Belarusian Dream Theater Project, and was presented in Latvia, Canada and USA (2014).

Her full-length play, The Orchae, was read as part of the Science and the Arts series of the City University New York, supported by The National Science Foundation (2015) and has received development support from the Department of Culture and the Arts, WA. Shaking the Tree showcased at The International Playwriting Festival and a reading of Staring at the Sun took place at The Actors Centre (both in London, 2012).

Vivienne has been a writer-in-residence at Bush Retreat for Eco-Writers (BREW), NSW; The Peter Cowan Writers Centre, WA; The Arts Catalyst London, UK (WA Playwrights Development Initiative, 2012) and at Cummins Theatre, Merredin, WA (Stages WA Playwrights Consortium, 2013). In May 2015, she was invited to the Djerassi Resident Artist Program, a 30-day residency in Woodside, California, USA.

Vivienne works with Sudanese writer, Afeif Ismail, co-transcreating his poems and plays into English. One of these transcreated plays, The African Magician, was nominated for an Australian Writers Guild Award (AWGIE) in 2011.

Awarded a PhD in Creative Writing in 2012, Vivienne is currently an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia (UWA) where she writes reviews and articles on numerous topics, including how science in presented theatrically. She also received UWA’s Matilda Award for Cultural Excellence. She is a full member of the Australian Writers Guild, the International Centre for Women Playwrights, and is an International Affiliate of The League of Professional Theatre Women.
