Chris is a multi-award winning writer working in film, television and theatre. He’s written three feature films including The Tumbler (nominated for the QLD Premier’s Literary Award and winner of the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award). He was Co-Creator and Head Writer for two seasons of the Foxtell-TV1 sit-com Shock Jock and for With Tim Ferguson on Channel 31. He wrote The Problem With Pluto for the Melbourne Planetarium and his short screenplay Cow won the VCA/Whistling Woods Mumbai Award and was produced in India.
His plays have been produced by many companies including St Martins, Jigsaw Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne and HotHouse Theatre and have received five AWGIE nominations winning for Shady Characters, The Bridge and The Sadness of Mister Saisson.
His short stories have been published in collections for young adult readers as well as in Meanjin and N-Scribe. He won the Alan Marshall Award for If You Sleep You Die and Prayers of the Pagans was a finalist in the Aesthetica International Creative Writing Contest.
In 2015 he co-created and wrote My Stories Bring Me Home a series of six short films produced by Open Channel for the WWI Centenary and in 2016 worked with Tim Ferguson to create Billie and the Dinosaurs, a performance for orchestra and storyteller. His reviews for youth literature have been published by Lowdown Magazine, Viewpoint Magazine, Australian Book Review and the Age. Chris has been Artistic Director of St Martins Youth Arts Centre, HotHouse Theatre, Jigsaw Theatre, Union House Theatre and both the Boroondara and St Kilda Writers’ Festivals.
He is a past President and Life Member of the Victorian Green Room Awards, is a Teaching Artist at Arts Centre Melbourne, a sessional lecturer at ACU and hosts the arts & culture show on Vision Australia Radio.
