Christine Croyden

Christine Croyden is a playwright, lyricist, teacher and novelist. In 2011 Croyden was selected for the Inaugural Stage and Screen Residency at Varuna. And in 2012 she was awarded a Copyright Agency Scholarship, the following year, she was mentored by lyricist, Jack Robinson, in Paris and Mercury Musical Developments in London. In 2017 she completed a six-month playwriting residency at the Cartoucherie in Paris. Croyden is also the author of two novels for young adults and many short stories.
Her plays have been performed throughout Australia. Her recent plays such as JOY inspired by the late Australian artist Joy Hester with original score by musician and composer Rosie Westbrook, was produced at Heide Gallery with the Hester Survey exhibition in 2021, and also in Geelong in 2022, and again in Melbourne in 2023.
Her play UNDERGROUND, inspired by the adventures of Nancy Wake (AKA The White Mouse), was produced at Gasworks in 2019 and has toured various theatres. Now, in French translation as LA SOURIS BLANCHE, the play was produced in 2024 at La Mama’s Festival of Mother tongues.
Croyden runs writing workshops at libraries and schools. Her new play about the Australian writer, Henry Handel Richardson, titled HENRY will be produced in Melbourne in July 2025.
