The Verbatim Theatre Bundle

“Good verbatim theatre can be a visceral, emotional and intellectual feast for the audience.” - Michael and Margery Forde

Real people, real events, real stories. It’s time to get real with The Verbatim Theatre Bundle.

Verbatim Theatre is an honest and raw form of theatre that explores a real event or issue, weaving its story from the words and interviews of people involved.

Featuring three true Australian stories, The Verbatim Theatre Bundle includes:

April’s Fool
by David Burton

In April 2009, two weeks short of his nineteenth birthday, Toowoomba teenager Kristjan Terauds died due to complications from illicit drug use. Using the words of Kristjan’s friends and family interviewed over many months, and inspired by the journal of Kristjan’s father, David Burton has dramatised a powerful story of love, loss, and sadness, with touching humour.

Embers
by Campion Decent

In January 2003, a dry storm ignited over 80 fires in Victoria’s Northeast and Gippsland. Based on interviews with residents of the region, Campion Decent has fashioned an extraordinary account of the fires. The heart stopping tales of survival, the courage and endurance of communities put to the test, the chilling evocations of the wave of heat that roared through untouched valleys, and the mountains of sandwiches volunteers anxiously prepared. Gripping, lyrical, and deeply moving, Embers is the story of a fire – and the people who conquered it.

Beyond the Neck
by Tom Holloway

Four complete strangers, bound by a shared moment. The Tasmanian Port Arthur Massacre. Ten years on and still the aftershock ripples. Based on in-depth interviews, Beyond the Neck deals with the grief and recovery of the 1996 tragedy.
